The problem

A newly constructed data center and crypto mining facility in South Texas was battling extreme internal heat that limited computing performance and profitability. Internal temperatures were climbing to levels that forced equipment to operate below capacity—directly reducing output and revenue.

Two factors were driving the issue:

  • Heat generated by high-density computing equipment running continuously

  • Severe thermal load from prolonged South Texas sun exposure on the building envelope

Complicating the challenge was the reality of the site: tens of millions of dollars in sensitive, high-value equipment was already installed and operating. The client needed a partner who could execute a highly technical thermal mitigation strategy with precision—without disrupting operations or putting equipment at risk.

Our Solution

Clevercoat developed and implemented a comprehensive thermal load reduction plan focused on reducing heat absorption and increasing thermal resistance across the building envelope.

The solution included:

  • Application of a specialized high-performance liquid applied insulating solution to all four exterior walls to reduce solar heat absorption

  • Spray foam insulation applied to the roof to increase thermal resistance

  • Application of the same specialized liquid applied seamless system over the roof to further reflect radiant heat

  • Careful sequencing and coordination with the client to protect sensitive equipment and maintain operational continuity throughout the project

Every step was executed with an emphasis on precision, safety, and minimal interruption—because the facility couldn’t afford downtime.

The Benefits

The results were immediate and measurable:

  • On a day with an 84°F ambient outdoor temperature, internal temperatures were reduced from 134°F to 92°F

  • The reduction allowed equipment to operate more efficiently and closer to full capacity—driving an immediate increase in revenue

  • The client projects the solution will pay for itself within one year, driven by improved operational efficiency and reduced energy consumption
